5 Signs Your Child Needs a Tutor

It is perfectly normal to be concerned that your child might not do well. A lot is riding on these exams, but it is important, that as their parents, you remain calm and collective. Make sure you keep a good line of communication between yourself and your child and know, that it is perfectly normal to ask yourself: Does my child need a tutor? – when you see them struggling. For that reason, let’s look at the 5 key signs that can help you determine whether your little angel really does need an additional private tuition or whether they can do it on their own.

1. Lying about grades

In class, your child will most certainly do practice tests and quizzes, and if they do not do well, they might have the incentive to lie about their grades. This can arise due to various reasons such as the pressure to excel or embarrassment of failure. As a parent, it’s important to be aware when these tests are so both you and your child can be prepared for them. It is also important to be able to talk to your child’s teacher about their performance at school and double-check whether you are getting to see their real marks and results.

2. Spending too much time on assignments

If your child is spending too much time working on a couple of assignments, this can be a clear signal that they might need a help. This is especially true, if it is always the same subject. For example, if your child has an essay to write, which is less than thousand words, this should’t take them longer than 2-3 days. If as a parent you find out that your child asks for a lot of extensions on their work, probably it is a good signal that they need a tutor.

3. Fear of going to school

If your child is very anxious about going to school and does not particularly enjoy it, this can be a sign that they are nervous about the amount of work that they have to do, and might fear that they won’t be able to complete it. They might also feel that the time they spent studying at home is not productive enough to complete certain tasks for which tutor is a great solution. They can help your child with concentration, explain unclear concepts that might be wearing them down and improve their productivity when studying at home after school.

4. Poor test grades

If your child is repeatedly receiving poor test grades, this can definitely be seen as a signal that they need extra help with their school work. Tests are a nice way of checking progress in students and if they are always receiving the same grade, it may indicate that they are stuck and need some additional help such as private tutoring.

5. Meltdowns about homework

And last but not least, if your child has frequent and extreme meltdowns because of their homework they might need help to better delegate and organize their time. A tutor is an excellent solution to this problem. They will teach your child how to stay focused on one task without stressing about the fact that they have to also complete another one later. In addition, a tutor can explain all of the unclear material and make the study hours more fun and productive at the same time.
